Update on Wildfire Recovery Resources 10/17

MEDFORD, Ore. —KDRV is partnering with the American Red Cross to support those impacted by the wildfires burning in Oregon. Donations support the work the Red Cross is providing to families that have been affected by the wildfires in Oregon.

Your support helps the Red Cross to prepare for, respond to, and help people recover from disasters. Your generous donations make it possible for the Red Cross to provide food, water, showers, first aid and emotional support to our neighbors in need.

Recovery resources for individuals and businesses

  • FEMA assistance is available for anyone impacted by fires. Both individuals and businesses are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.
  • SOREDI has a number of resources for businesses affected by fires, and continues to offer grants to companies impacted by COVID-19.
  • Ready.gov offers information on forming a Business Continuity Plan for businesses impacted by a disaster.
  • Property tax relief is available for Jackson County residents who lost property during the Almeda, South Obenchain, or Greenway MM 24 fires.
    • Individuals who have suffered damage or loss of their property due to the fires are strongly encouraged to file a proration form with the Jackson County Assessor’s office.
    • Applications must be filed with the Assessor’s office within 60 days of the damage or by June 30 of the tax year (2020-21), whichever is later.
    • Applications are available here, or outside the office at 10 S. Oakdale, Room 300. They can be completed and placed in the marked box located on the wall outside the door.

Jackson County Emergency Management is urging those who want to donate, volunteer, or need help to go to Rogue Valley Recovers and complete the online form. The county is increasingly consolidating resources on this site.

If you have in-kind donations, are looking for where else to contribute, or are in need of support for you and your family, here is a growing list of local places accepting donation or offering other resources:

Ongoing fire relief funds

  • Rogue Credit Union is taking donations, now matching up to $100,000.
  • Medford Neighborhood Church – “I C.A.R.E.” campaign taking monetary donations.
    • Donate online here – make sure to distinguish that your donation is for “I C.A.R.E.”

  • Phoenix Talent Fire Relief Fund – If you would like to contribute to a fund to help the families of Talent and Phoenix who have lost their homes or had to evacuate you can mail or deliver a cash/check donation to the address below:

    • You can also deliver a cash/gift card donation to Orchard Hill Elementary at 1011 La Loma Dr. Medford, OR
  • Bear Lake Estates has set up a relief fund to help their residents that lost their homes. The entire community of 210 homes is now gone.
  • Rockwell Real Estate is raising money for fire relief, to be matched up to $10,000.
  • United Rotary Clubs of Southern Oregon is accepting financial donations.
  • Oregon Bankers Association has established a Wildfire Relief Fund to help Oregonians who have been displaced, working with local chambers in the impacted areas to determine where funds can be used to have the greatest local community impact.
    • OBA has made an initial $5,000 contribution to the fund.
    • Asking friends and colleagues – both individuals and businesses – to make a 501(c)3 tax-deductible contribution to the Wildfire Relief Fund today. Every dollar donated will go to communities in need. To make a donation, visit the site here.
  • Grange Co-op is raising money for the Phoenix-Talent Families Relief Fund at all 7 stores.
    • The company says it will match up to $25,000 raised by customers.

  • Youth 71Five Ministries has set up an emergency wildfire fund for youth and families impacted by the recent fires.
    • To request assistance or donate, visit the website here or call 541-779-3275.
    • 71Five also is holding an online auction with over $65,000 in donated gift certificates, products and services. It will last until October 5, with all proceeds going toward fire relief efforts. Visit the website or the auction page here for more info.
  • Ashley Homestore is raising money to donate twin mattresses for children that lost their beds in the Almeda Fire.

    • Ashley will match up to $5,000.

In-kind donations (drop-off or pickup)

  • Rogue Valley Fire Mutual Aid has established supply drop-off locations:
    • South Ashland at 770 Faith St. (Drop off at driveway on Wine St.)
    • North Ashland at 223 Maple St. (Drop off at side yard/driveway)

  • Living Waters Church is receiving and distributing food and items.

  • Southern Oregon Spartans are collecting gift cards and supplies at The Rrrink

  • Real Life Church at 2417 Avenue A, White City is collecting donations of food, camping gear, pillows, blankets, hygiene products, and allowing families affected to pick up these donated items. Also, need phone chargers, clothing racks, and volunteers.
    • Resources available: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
    • Volunteers needed: 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
    • Monetary donations can be made here. All funds will be used to purchase items families need that aren’t available through their donation center
  • ACCESS is encouraging virtual food drives to help raise funds to buy food. Right now, the most needed items at ACCESS are: peanut butter, canned meat and tuna and toiletries

  • Grange Co-op is accepting pet and livestock supply donations to be distributed at evacuation hubs here:

  • CSL Plasma at 1221 S. Riverside Ave. Medford is a collection donation site for these items:
    • Water Bottles, Non-perishable foods, adult and baby diapers, baby formula, blankets, toiletries/hygiene items, toilet paper, pet food, new underwear, new socks, cooking utensils, tents, sleeping bags, storage totes, flashlights batteries.
  • Habitat for Humanity has launched a furniture center for people who lost their homes. Donations of certain items can be made here:
    • 2201 S Pacific Hwy Medford, OR 97501 (next to the ReStore)
    • Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
    • Accepting dressers, couches, recliners and chairs, dining table sets, lamps, end and coffee tables, and bunk beds.

Food and other services for evacuees

  • Medford Gospel Mission is offering free clothing and meals to anyone affected by fires.
    • Outfit Outlet Store open each day 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
    • Free meals every evening from 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
  • Herb’s Restaurant & Event Center – Herb’s is serving free meals to:
    • Anyone who has lost their home in local fires, firefighters, and first responders.
  • Court House Family Fitness on N Phoenix Road is offering free showers to those displaced by fire.
    • Check in at the Court House front desk for free half-hour access to showers.
  • A&J Mobility – providing free repair services to anyone who was displaced by the fires in southern Oregon.

  • Ashland Christian Fellowship has opened a resource center with clothing, food, hot and cold meals and toiletries.
    • Monday-Friday 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays from 2-6 p.m.
    • Converted the sanctuary into a sleeping shelter for displaced individuals or families.
    • RV’s and campers are allowed to park in the parking lot.

  • ELOISE and POP’S Care Closet is offering free clothing from Monday, Sept. 21 through Friday, Sept. 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • RE/MAX at 2594 E. Barnett Road, Suite B, in Medford is offering a place to complete paperwork:
    • If you need a quiet place to complete necessary paperwork, insurance and county forms, need access to a computer, printer, scanner or phone, RE/MAX offices and brokers are here to help. Please call the office 541-734-5500.
  • Phoenix Counseling is forming a community support group for local residents to come together during difficult times.
    • Open to all members of the Rogue Valley community.
    • Available via Zoom on Mondays and Wednesdays, beginning Wednesday, September 23.
    • The Zoom room will be open from 5 to 7 p.m., you can join at any time.

Temporary fundraisers and resources

  • Ashlee’s Toy Closet will be in Phoenix on October 3, distributing toys to kids who lost their homes.
    • Runs from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. or until toys are all distributed.
    • At Jackson County Fire District 5 — 5811 South Pacific Highway, Phoenix.
    • Must provide ID, proof of loss, and children must be present.

Volunteer opportunities

  • The Rogue Valley Community Organizations Active in Disaster (RVCOAD) is available to help those wishing to volunteer and those in need of volunteers.
  • Samaritan’s Purse is looking for local volunteers to help people who lost their homes.
    • Oregon residents can give back—no experience is necessary, just a willingness to get your hands dirty and help your neighbors.
    • Each day, Samaritan’s Purse offers a brief in-person safety orientation at 7:30 a.m. or 12:30 p.m. To learn more go to spvolunteer.org.
