Stewart back at SOU as offensive coordinator

After playing as SOU’s starting fullback and a member of the special teams unit for two seasons in 2006-07, Stewart spent his first eight seasons on staff as the Raiders’ running backs coach. He oversaw four 1,000-yard rushers during that time, and after SOU posted 214.5 rushing yards per game in 2015 – still the team’s highest mark since ’03 – the late Craig Howard promoted him to offensive line coach.
He departed in 2016 as a national champion and made two stops before landing at C of I: Central Washington, where he was a running backs coach and video coordinator in 2017-18, and Eastern Washington, where he was an offensive analyst and assistant offensive line coach for the FCS’s top-ranked offense in 2019-20.
At C of I, Stewart oversaw four all-conference selections as the Yotes finished atop the Frontier standings every season during his tenure. In 2022 they recorded the 15th-most rushing yards per game and per carry in the NAIA.
“I’m just glad to be home and it feels right being back in these hallways, seeing Raider Stadium and Grizzly Peak,” Stewart said. “Knowing what this institution has done for me and what we’ve accomplished, I love this place to death and can’t wait to get to work.”
Stewart, a product of Vancouver, Wash., and his wife, Necole, have two children: a daughter, Marlie, and a son, Jimmy.
