The SOU Chamber Ensembles will present a woodwind showcase titled “Collage” at the Southern Oregon University Music Recital Hall on Monday, February 7, 2023.

Presented by the Oregon Center for the Arts at Southern Oregon University, the concert will begin at 7:30 pm in person with a simultaneous livestream on the Oregon Center for the Arts YouTube Channel.

SOU Chamber Ensemble: Jack Boulter, Iryna Kudielina, Travis Muñoz

The program will feature contemporary, Latin, and romantic chamber music by the mixed ensemble “Coloratura Reed Quintet,” [Reedacted] Clarinet Ensemble, and the saxophone quartet “Saxology.”

“This concert will be a showcase of musical talent featuring a diverse range of styles and genres. This exciting event will bring together students playing clarinet, saxophone, bassoon, oboe and piano for an evening of entertaining performances that are sure to delight and inspire. If you’re a fan of classical, Latinromantic, or contemporary, this concert has something for you. Don’t miss this opportunity to experience the incredible musical talent at Southern Oregon University,” said Dr. Rhett Bender, director.

The concert will begin with “Cuartito Azul and Tanguera” from Quinte Tango by Mariano Mores, arr. by Silvia Coricelli, performed by the Coloratura Reed Quintet. The quintet is made up of oboe, clarinet, saxophone, bass clarinet and bassoon and features undergraduate music students Meagan Stabell, Jack Boulter, Amanda Esser, Jackie Lu, and graduate student Travis Muñoz.

Saxology: Jack Kovalesi Sax Group

“This concert features old and new music and like a collage it juxtaposes colors and textures in one place. It also appeals to today’s music lovers who like varieties of music but can’t sit through a 40-minute-long symphony,” said Travis Muñoz.

The program will also include Felix Mendelssohn’s Concertpiece No. 2 Op 114, Sud America by Lino Florenzo, Mozart’s Cosi Fan Tutte Overture and Claude Debussy’s La Fille aux Cheveux de.

The concert will conclude with the [Reedacted] Clarinet Ensemble, featuring undergraduate music students Jack Boulter, Alexa Ehrlich, Natalie Clayborn, Orion Danforth, Jackie Lu, Ethan Greismer, and graduate student Travis Muñoz performing Collage, the concert’s namesake, written by Robert Baska.
