SUBJECT:  Businesses Taking Action: Who should we support?

Which businesses should we support?

Many in the business community attempt to conduct their operations in line with their personal values. This can involve being responsible for environmental protection or maintaining a business climate of social justice both in terms of employees and customers. Unfortunately, only too often, such business behavior goes unrecognized and unappreciated. Through its ‘Businesses Taking Action’ project, Southern Oregon Climate Action Now (SOCAN) seeks to provide businesses displaying environmental and social justice sensitivity with the recognition they deserve while also providing potential customers the opportunity to use this information when deciding which business to support.

During its September general meeting, to be held via ZOOM on September 28th at 6:00 pm, SOCAN will introduce our Businesses Taking Action program, explain how it achieves its purpose, and provide an opportunity for three recognized businesses to discuss what they are doing and why. We will hear from OSU student Gabriela Safay who developed the program as a SOCAN Intern, Constance Palaia from Motel del Rogue (http://moteldelrogue.com/), Anne Carter from the Medford Food Coop (https://medfordfood.coop/), and Erin Douglas from Banyan Botanicals (https://www.banyanbotanicals.com/).

The program is free and open to the public but attendees need to Register at https://bit.ly/Businesses-Taking-Action to receive the URL for the meeting.  A video of the program will be available after the presentation on the SOCAN website.
