Yesterday, U.S. Forest Service- Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest, CAL FIRE Siskiyou Unit, U.S. Forest Service – Klamath National Forest, ODF Southwest Oregon District and firefighters from the #McKinneyFire were able to completely line the #SmokeyFire, located approximately two miles south of the Oregon-California border on the Klamath National Forest. So far, this has been the closest fire to Oregon that’s burning in Northern California.

The fire was first reported Thursday morning. A quick, aggressive initial attack response from CALFIRE made all the difference, and Oregon resources from ODF and the RRSNF were able to help catch the fire at approximately 30 acres and line 100% of the perimeter in one day. While terrain is steep in this area, firefighters were also able to fully plumb the fire with hose lays, allowing for water access across the entire incident.

Resources will remain on scene working on mop-up operations until it’s taken over by California Incident Management Team 2 this evening. For additional information on the fires burning in Northern California, follow U.S. Forest Service – Klamath National Forest.

Locally, our firefighting agencies are dedicated to keeping fires small, and ODF appreciates the partnerships we have here in Southern Oregon and Northern California!
