Food Bank adds Saturday hours to meet increasing need of working families in Ashland and Talent

In response to an increasing need, the Ashland Community Food Bank will be open on the third Saturday of every month, starting November 18. Hours will be 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, the same as Monday through Friday.

“Since the beginning of 2023, the food bank has experienced a 140% increase in need in the communities it serves—Ashland and Talent,” said Amey Broeker, the executive director. “Our new Saturday hours will make it more convenient for working families to come to the food bank.”

The most recent data (from 2021) on affordability for people employed in Jackson County show that 44% of Ashland families and 54% of Talent families cannot afford the basics of housing, child care, food, transportation, health care, and technology.

Currently, the food bank serves over 1,200 community members by providing over 55,000 pounds of food every month.

Anyone wanting food needs only a photo ID and proof of their residency in Ashland, Talent, or surrounding areas. Nothing else is required.

For November and December, the food bank is offering extra food for holiday meals—turkeys and hams plus the traditional trimmings, as well as vegetarian options.

Mission Statement: In solidarity with our community, the Ashland Community Food Bank sustainably provides food at no cost to all those in need living in Ashland and Talent, while increasing awareness of food insecurity. We serve all people with dignity.
